Queensland:- Lara Wetlands

(14/10/2017 – 15/10/2017)

We now drove east along the Landsborough Highway where we stopped at Barcaldine for fuel, food and groceries.    From there we travelled down the Highway to Lara Station Wetlands.

We turned off the highway onto a dirt road where we drove in about 13 kms to the campground.  Hello to all the cows sitting and wandering around on the road!!!!  It had been raining and there were quite a few potholes filled with water.   Unfortunately there were a couple we could not avoid so the car and caravan got smashed with water and mud!!!!! Queensland:- Longreach

(11/10/2017 – 13/10/2017)

Longreach was about 2 hours south of Winton.    Just kms and kms and kms of very dry landscape and there is so much roadkill on the highways around here.    All those poor animals……  We arrived in Longreach and checked in to the Longreach Tourist Park for 2 nights.   There weren’t too many trees around for shade!!!   But we are used to the red dust, dirt and heat now which is all part and parcel of the outback!!!! Outback Qld – “Dinosaur Trail” Richmond

(6/10/2017 – 7/10/2017)

RICHMOND – FOSSIL CAPITAL OF AUSTRALIA

On Friday morning we packed up and continued along the Flinders Highway to our next dinosaur trail stop at Richmond.   We checked into Lakeview Caravan Park for 2 nights.  It was a nice spot with lake views (Lake Fred Tritton) but unfortunately the lake was closed to the public due to an algae problem and the council were in the process of cleaning it up.   We were advised that the lake won’t be ready for use for another couple of weeks.   Such a shame as it would have been nice to walk down and have a swim and for Mitchell to have a play in the water park, considering it was so hot!!!
